For almost half a century now, the luxury Swiss watchmaker Hublot has been delivering phenomenal timepieces. This time around, the brand has collaborated with Daniel Arsham to reimagine the classic pocket watch, creating the Arsham Droplet.
Arsham is largely famous for his unique style of transforming everyday objects into “future relics,” which seamlessly unite his artistic vision with Hublot’s technical mastery. Together, the two blend antique design with futuristic materials and production methods, creating in a versatile piece of art that can be enjoyed in various ways.
In order to find the inspiration for the Droplet, Arsham ventured deep into the cold tundras of Iceland. There, he studied the water, how it crystallises into ice, and the effect of light on the passage of time.
The Arsham Droplet seamlessly unites Hublot’s technical mastery and Arsham’s distinctive artistic vision. By partnering extensively with Hublot watchmakers from sketch to production, he was able to achieve something so incredibly innovative that it pushed the boundaries of traditional watchmaking.
The Droplet is a completely new take on the traditional pocket watch. The design is inspired by water’s fluidity, and it embodies rounded elegance and transparency. The Droplet’s bold design incorporates a titanium case, sapphire crystal, and rubber bumpers, as well as a distinct rounded drop shape and unparalleled complexity.
Its ergonomic design measures 73.2mm in length, 52.6mm in width, and 22.5mm in thickness, fitting perfectly in the hand for an immersive horological experience.
Two titanium chains provide flexible wearability, which also features Hublot’s patented double “one-click” system. What distinguishes it is Hublot’s iconic Meca-10 manufacturing movement, which has a 10-day power reserve and offers complete freedom of movement. It all comes together to create a groundbreaking timepiece that is both different and unique.
The watch can be worn as a necklace, a standard pocket watch, or even displayed as a sculptural centrepiece on its decorative titanium and mineral glass table stand.
