UNIQLO UTme! X Early Autism Project Collab Showcases Artistic Talents From Autistic Kids

by Rachel Chuah
December 8, 2021

If you’re in the midst of looking for something different this Christmas, look no further. UNIQLO has got some very unique items created by some very special children.

UNIQLO’s UTme! and Early Autism Project (EAP) have collaborated to present T-shirts and Tote bags with beautiful drawings done by autistic kids. Not only can you get some UNIQLO quality items, you’ll flout some one-of-a-kind drawings done by these young artists!

As an education centre which focuses on rehabilitating with autism for the local autism community, raising awareness about autism is important to EAP. Hence why they launched the initiative, The Hope Project. The Hope Project is meant to help people access accurate diagnosis and treatment for individuals with autistic spectrum.

UNIQLO is throwing their support behind this project via their UTme! collaboration. As the UTme! service allows customers to add customs designs done by their collaborating artists and designers to T-shirts and tote bags, this is the perfect platform for autistic children to express themselves creatively.

“Children with autism have an extraordinary ability to think visually in pictures, so communicating visually, such as through drawing and coloring helps them to communicate what’s going on in their world,” Jochebed Isaacs, Director of EAP Malaysia and Founder of The Hope Project shared. “In fact, drawing could help children with ASD regulate their emotions, interact with peers and family, and build self-confidence.”

The four bright young artists who participated in the collaboration excitedly showed off their work during the Meet-The-Artist event last Friday (3rd December). Their designs were inspired by nature and our local Malaysian wildlife. From tigers and turtles to sun bears and Orangutans and hornbills, Azizy, Sinan, Elias and Gerald proudly demonstrated their artistic renditions of each animal.

UNIQLO Mid Valley Megamall To Reopen Later This Month

The creativity doesn’t stop with these artists. You can make your own unique design on the T-shirts and tote bags by layering them with the drawings-turned-stickers. Don’t worry about the technical side of things! You’ll be guided as to how to use the tablets located at the UTme! corner. Both adult sized T-shirts from XS to XL (RM79.90) and kid sized T-shirts (RM59.90) are available, along with tote bags (RM79.90).

Unfortunately, the UTme! X EAP collaboration is only available at the UNIQLO stores in Fahrenheit 88 and DA Square. However, there is a surprise for customers at UNIQLO DA Square. The first 50 customers who purchase the collaboration will be entitled to EAP merchandise!

The collaboration is available from 1st December. Do make sure to check it out as soon as you can and support our local autistic community!
