Kuan Chee Heng (关志庭), better known online as Uncle Kentang, is a well-known local activist who has long championed social causes and provided financial assistance to those in need. Admired for his generosity and selfless nature, it comes as little surprise that he stepped in to help a mother who had been abandoned by her boyfriend.
Earlier this week, the public figure shared the story of a 34-year-old woman who had given birth to twins alone at home. Tragically, one of the infants did not survive. When she reached out to her boyfriend for help, he callously told her to dispose of the surviving child.

“What a useless man! The boyfriend asked her to throw the baby away,” Uncle Kentang wrote in a Facebook post, expressing his anger at the absent partner, who is presumed to be the father of the prematurely born baby. The activist explained that the mother works as a Grab driver and already has a 3-year-old son, making it impossible for her to afford the RM10,000 hospital bill. He appealed for donations in the hope of raising enough funds to secure the baby’s discharge.
His post drew widespread attention from netizens, many of whom sympathised with the mother and criticised her boyfriend for abandoning his family in their time of need. Yesterday (Tuesday, 26th August), the public figure confirmed that the RM10,000 target had been reached. “Congratulations to all of you! You have just saved a baby’s life. Thank you to all donors and kind hearts,” Uncle Kentang said, expressing his gratitude before sharing that the mother and child are now allowed to go home.

He ended his post by saying he was looking forward to this year’s Merdeka celebrations, inspired by the kindness of Malaysians who came together to help a stranger and her child in need. As for the mother, Uncle Kentang previously noted that she had left her boyfriend and moved out of their home, and that they had contacted the Social Welfare Department for further assistance. We hope that the woman will receive further support to care for her family.
