Remember “Tremors“? The 90s cult classic about some strange-looking underground creatures that are killing residents of a small isolated town?

Well, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be making an “earth-shattering return” via a TV series reboot and “The Following” actor Kevin Bacon has signed on to star in it.

Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions and Universal Cable Productions will be developing the series based on the popular horror sci-fi classic.

Produced by “The Walking Dead” EP Gale Anne Hurd, the original film sees residents of a small, isolated desert town fending off giant killer worms who move underground and are attracted to any movement above ground. Bacon was attached to it as Valentine McKee, a freelance construction worker who discovered the first victims of the giant killer worms in town. He also starred alongside Fred Ward, Finn Carter, Michael Gross and Reba McEntire.

The film, which grossed USD16.6 million domestically, spawned 4 direct-to-video sequels and a 2003 TV series titled “Tremors: The Seriesthat” on the SciFi Channel.

None of the sequels starred Bacon, but the actor told IGN that he’d love to revisit his character in the film. At the time, he said:

I’d love to do something else with Tremors and revisit the character 25 years later. Part of what’s great about that movie is there are next to no digital effects. The monsters are done with puppetry, and it’s still off, funny and scary – It’s a cool accomplishment.

He said the same thing during an interview with Vice earlier in August. “It’s a surprisingly good movie, I remember it being a little more sillier that it is,” he said. He then added that Valentine is the only character that he has ever done that he is interested in revisiting 25 years on.

Before it was officially confirmed that he will star in the TV series reboot, Bacon hinted at his return to the franchise by sharing a throwback picture of himself and his wife Kyra Sedgwick on Twitter.

Besides returning to reprise his role, Bacon will serve as an executive producer for the TV series reboot. No network is attached to the reboot yet, but Universal Cable Productions said multiples venues have expressed interest in this project.
