#TreatYoSelf: The Best Dessert Toasts In Klang Valley For Sweet-Toothed Toast Lovers

by Lainey
January 4, 2016

We gotta say, the decadent thick toast desserts are such a thing these days that it’s hard to ignore. Even for us!

Of course, sweet-toothed Malaysians aren’t exactly strangers to that style of dessert because Hong Kong restaurant chain Kim Gary first brought it to Malaysia some years ago. Who doesn’t remember Kim Gary’s “signature” peanut butter condensed milk thick toast that got our tongues a-waggin’?

But new styles have emerged in recent times, taking a leaf out of the Shibuya-style thick toast desserts book. The Shibuya-style thick toast dessert features blocks of bread usually crowned with whipped cream and ice cream. Sometimes, with heaping servings of fruits, syrup, and dustings of sugary powder as well.

As the trend continues to grow, several cafes specialising in thick toast desserts have popped up, sinfully but gleefully inviting Malaysians in with open arms. Some cafes have also added the calorific treat on their menus, leaving their guests no choice but to have a separate stomach for desserts altogether!

Move aside, waffles craze. These thick toast desserts are here to stay for a while:

Dreamz Bakery

Located at No 32-1, The Strand Jalan, PJU5/20D Pusat Perdagangan Kota Damansara, 47810 Petaling Jaya, Dreamz Café is open for anyone seeking great company to come together and enjoy a leisurely afternoon. The featured flavour at Dreamz Bakery is their Honey Toast where blocks of honey toast are being stacked on top of each other. It is then topped off with Lavender, Rose Lychee or Oreo Mint ice cream.

Check out their Instagram for more information.

You may remember seeing our Instagram post a couple of months ago about our short but sweet (oh, definitely sweet!) visit to this place. Harajucube is a Japanese cafe and restaurant that serves a mouth-watering variety of towering, cubed bread blocks for breakfast, brunch, dinner (if you like), and dessert.

We gotta warn you though that such “culinary adventure” shouldn’t be experienced alone because Harajucube’s toast servings are huge. So remember to share 🙂 Harajucube is located at 103, Empire Damansara, Jalan PJU8/8 Damansara Perdana, 47800 Petaling Jaya. For more information, visit Harajucube’s Facebook page or Instagram.

Known to many as a “French Japanese fusion cafe”, Franco (previously known as Miam Miam) may be new, but it’s already popular for its “legendary sweet treats”. Namely its soufflé, pancakes, and French toast. What makes Franco’s dessert-like French toast different is not just the way it’s served (standard French toasts are served flat) but also the way it tastes.

It’s thicker, denser, cut in squares, and each slice is piled on top of another before being topped off with whipped cream and a generous serving of maple syrup plus icing sugar. For more information, visit Franco’s Facebook page.

Miru

Although it only officially opened about a month ago, Miru is already quickly picking up pace as patrons are flocking to the dessert cafe for its yummy Shibuya honey toasts! A quick look at their menu tells us that we’d have to make a few visits to really experience and savour their honey toasts.

The big plus is that the good people at Miru even allows their customers to make special requests for additional toppings or customise their own toast altogether. Winning! Miru Dessert Cafe is located at 62, Jalan SS21/58, Damansara Utama, 47400 Petaling Jaya. For more information, visit Miru’s Facebook page or website.

That’s all for now but trust us when we say that it won’t be long before others latch on to this dessert trend. We’ll update this post with more places soon!
