Treat Yo Self With A Scoop Of Happiness At These Cool Ice Cream Shops!

There is no better way to enjoy the summer than cooling ourselves down with something refreshing under the scorching hot weather. Lemonades aside, iced desserts such as shaved ice and ice cream are just the perfect treat for those of us who live in a place where summer never ends. However, ordinary ice creams simply aren’t enough to satisfy our sweet tooth as we constantly crave for something unique.

Thus, some ice cream enthusiasts have begun to incorporate unique Malaysian flavours into otherwise ordinary ice creams to create some of the weirdest, delicious ice cream we’ve ever tasted! Forget McDonald’s ice cream, check out our favourite homemade ice cream that are being served in town now:

1. Whimsical Gelateria & Caffe by Cielo Dolci

Gelato makes us happy indeed! From the owner of Cielo Dolci comes a tiny, whimsy cafe that serves unique gelato flavours alongside the crispy waffles. Operated by the owners of Cielo Dolci, Whimsical Gelateria & Caffe is a cafe that serves most of their food especially their breakfast with their creative gelato flavours. How creative are they, you ask?

Oh you know what they say, always expect the unexpected and that’s exactly the motto you should live by when you’re at Cielo Dolci. From Nasi Lemak flavour to chocolate cili padi flavour to popcorn flavour, there are more than 30 flavours for you to choose from! Even though their unique gelato are highly recommended, our current favourites are the lavender honey gelato and salted caramel gelato. We’d recommend people to go earlier to try their breakfast set that’s made available until 5pm only.

  • Publika Shopping Gallery: D2-G3-05, Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur (opposite Namoo On The Park)
  • Paradigm Shopping Mall (Cielo Dolci only): LG 50, 47301 Petaling Jaya, Malaysia
  • Opening Hours: Mon – Thu 11:00 – 23:00 | Fri 11:00 – 00:00 | Sat 10:00 – 12:00| Sun 10:00 – 23:00 | Tue closed.

2. Inside Scoop

Psst, have you heard about the best ice cream in town? We’ve got the “inside scoop” that you can find them at a tiny venue somewhere in Bangsar! In fact, they’ve just expanded their business by opening a second outlet in Damansara Jaya!

A Sweet Twist From Inside Scoop: Introducing Malaysia’s First Ice Cream Yee Sang

Inside Scoop KL recently emerged into the ice cream scene and notably, they’ve done quite well because crowds are seen filling up their cafe almost on daily basis. Using only the most premium ingredients, Inside Scoop KL offers up to 31 flavours (at most) without adding any artificial flavourings, colourings, or preservatives. As a result, their ice creams are softer and smoother than any other ice cream we’ve had in our lives!

Despite its pungent smell, the durian ice cream flavour has become a crowd favourite at Inside Scoop KL. But of course, some other flavours such as blueberry cheesecake, bandung, or pink grapefruit sorbet will definitely make you want to crave for more unique ice cream flavours!

  • Bangsar: 9, Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar Baru 59100 Kuala Lumpur.
  • Damansara Jaya: Jalan SS22/19, Damansara Jaya, 47400 Selangor. (next to Jin Xuan dim sum restaurant)
  • Opening Hours: Mon – Thu: 12:30 – 23:00 | Fri – Sat: 12:30 – 00:00 | Sun: 12:30 – 23:00 | Wed closed.

3. The Last Polka

When it comes to The Last Polka, their ice cream choices never fail to surprise us. Similar to Cielo Dolci, The Last Polka is known for their local ice cream flavours, ranging from french toast to gula melaka to teh tarik. The Last Polka has gained a huge following as they are one of the pioneers of developing these unique ice cream flavours.

As a result, Malaysians with adventurous taste buds have become spoilt with the choices they could offer. Alcoholics might want to try their Guinness Stout ice cream flavour while coffee enthusiasts will be pleased to try out the Vanilla Bean ice cream paired with Artisan Roast’s “Nowhere Man” coffee blend. It has become obvious that flavour plays a greater role in The Last Polka as they’ve since developed their “own” gelato flavour: (Kita) Punya Colada.

As the name suggests, The Last Polka injected a fresh twist on the original Pina Colada flavour by adding jackfruit with pineapple and coconut with Root Beer flavoured ice cream. Our verdict? It is a must-try! The Last Polka is now available at the following locations:

  • Artisan Coffee Bar — Bangsar Village II / Section 13, PJ
  • The Bee — Jaya One / Publika

For those who enjoy the classic ice cream flavours, Fatbaby Ice Cream is a must go and must try. However, it’s just a matter of time before they come up with a whole new range of crowd-pleasing flavours. Founded by actuary-turned-ice cream maker Hui Ming, Fatbaby Ice Cream goes by the motto of making unique ice cream flavours with “shedloads of love”!

Steering clear of artificial ingredients, expect to taste homemade ice creams that are made with good quality basic ingredients. People can ramble on all day about unique ice cream flavours, but Fatbaby Ice Cream have certainly got it right by going down the crowd-pleasing route with universally-loved flavours such as salted caramel, cornflakes, apple crumble, coffee crunch and so on. The Madagascar vanilla beans flavour stands proud as the Queen Bean of vanilla beans, that goes perfectly with any toppings such as brownies, pies, cakes, or chopped nuts.

All in all, they make awesome ice cream, ’nuff said. Fatbaby Ice Cream is currently available at the following locations:

Happiness doesn’t always come in cones and cups. The Potong made it the final cut in our list of ice creams to try in Malaysia for bringing the classic popsicle-style ice cream to us Malaysians. Think red bean potong, corn potong, yam potong; these are just some of the classic flavours they offer.

Being their usual creative and innovative self, The Potong now offers a modern twist on the humble treat from their signature pop to seasonal pop to booze pop. Using only 100% fresh natural ingredients, these homemade popsicles come in one-of-a-kind flavours that will bring us an unforgettable melt-in-the-mouth delight.

One can always differ The Potong with the rest of the ice cream shops as they’ve invented some of the most unique popsicles flavour, targeting at various demographics. With their sense of fun in these popsicles, The Potong have become a must-have summer treat at the major music festivals in Malaysia.
