We often hear stories of women being subjected to criticism over their choice of outfits. Famous celebrities like Sharifah Sakinah, Janna Nick, and also Nora Danish have often been the target of malicious commentators over what they wore. However, a TikTok user came up with the best way to shut these self-proclaimed fashion police down.

Last week, the female TikToker uploaded a video of her doing the CrossFit workouts while clad in a pair of the traditional baju kebaya. Surprisingly, the clip has gone viral on the platform, with over 400k views at the time of writing (Tuesday, 31st May).

The TikTok user, known as Fina Arif, appeared in an exclusive interview with mStar not long after her video went viral on social media. According to her, she uploaded the video on her page as a response to those who slammed her for often wearing revealing clothing while working out.

She revealed during the chat, “I usually put my gym wear on while exercising. At that time, there was this one netizen who asked me to wear the ‘baju kurung’ while working out, so I took up the challenge. In the video, I wore a figure-hugging ‘baju kurung’, and not the loose type. The material is also heavy and stretchable, which makes it easier for me to move around. I wasn’t offended by the negative comments, I only wear clothes that I feel most comfortable in.”

Fina also noted that she was aware that her skirt was lifted while doing the handstand push-up exercise. She explained, “I was not worried since I wore my workout pants underneath the clothes. I post my videos on my socials for fun, not to go viral. But I do want to share it with my followers.”

The mother-of-two also revealed that this wasn’t the first time she has worn the traditional outfit while doing outdoor activities. “Back in September of 2009, I donned a pair of ‘baju kurung’ while scuba diving in Tioman Island. I’ve always loved outdoor activities that puts my strength to test. I’ve also been working out in the gym for awhile now. (Meanwhile) it’s only been six months since I joined CrossFit,” Fina was quoted as saying.

Of course, Fina wasn’t spared from receiving backlash from netizens over the recent post she shared on her TikTok. “There were a few who accused me of destroying the cultural heritage. At least I’m proud of my traditional outfit,” she told the local portal, in response to the negative comments.

We love the confidence, girl!  😉
