Italian TikTok celebrity Giuseppe D’Anna shared the news of his engagement with his followers on Monday (23rd May). The video, which has garnered more than 34 million views, features photos of the youngster holding a bunch of balloon hearts, popping the question on one knee to his now-fiancée.
His followers on the internet though have been left baffled by the 19-year-old’s announcement. It wasn’t so much the way D’Anna proposed to his girlfriend as it was the fact that his fiancée is 76 years old, making her 57 years older than him.
Users were divided about the relationship because of the massive age difference, comparing them to another couple, Cheryl and Quran who have a 37-year age difference. TikTok users have been trolling D’Anna, accusing him of exploiting the mature woman for money. Others thought his fiancée was his grandmother and that he was using her for clout on TikTok.
D’Anna appears to be determined to prove the sincerity of their relationship, sharing more adoring TikTok posts in the days following his proposal. However, his fans pointed out that in other videos, the 19-year-old refers to his partner as his “grandmother.”
To note, there are many couples with huge age gap differences, including celebrities such as Sam and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (23 years), and Vincent Cassel with his wife Tina Kunakey (31 years).
