“They Were Never Meant To Perform”: Privacy Club Tun Razak Addresses Thai Hot Guys Controversy

The recent news of the Thai Hot Guys performing at Privacy Club at Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur has certainly caused an uproar. Just yesterday (Wednesday, 22nd March), former Prime Minister Najib Razak’s son slammed the premise for planning the event, adding that it was an insult to his grandfather’s name.

Some seemed to agree with the politician and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) was called to investigate the venue where they reportedly discovered that the Privacy Club’s license had expired back in February 2021. The person in charge (PIC) of the local bar recently came forward to address the whole situation.

To recap, it was announced earlier this week that the Thai Hot Guys will make an appearance for the Grand Opening ceremony of Privacy Club, which was scheduled to take place this 30th March. The addition of the macho waiters upset quite a lot of people. This led to the local bar being investigated by authorities.

It was previously reported that the venue has been operating under an expired food establishment license and that there was no application for an entertainment license to hold the event and feature the lingerie-wearing male waiters and guest DJs. Speaking to China Press, Frankie, the person in charge of Privacy Club said that the information confirmed by DBKL was not entirely accurate.

“We’ve always renewed our license, and our current license is valid until July this year,” he told the news outlet and provided a copy of the venue’s license as proof. As for the backlash the establishment received for inviting the controversial waiters from Thailand, the PIC clarified that they were only meant to officiate the ceremony, not perform. “We didn’t expect that the poster would cause misunderstandings. We invited them to cut the ribbon,” he said.

In response to the public outrage and orders from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Privacy Club officially cancelled the program and issued a statement on Facebook to clarify that they respect religious sensitivities and will not violate the laws that have been set. “We once again apologise for any inconvenience caused, and on the grounds, of respecting racial and religious sensitivities, the program has been cancelled,” the bar wrote.
