It’s normal to take in a close friend’s advice and act upon it. However, we should be careful with what we are advising another party as it may lead to unwanted circumstances. We do not want our beliefs in certain aspects to cause a negative impact on another’s life, especially on something as big as marriage.
Recently, well-known Taiwanese writer, Mask (口罩男), posted an apology message on his Facebook, addressing to his close friend. In his post, he apologised for destroying the person’s marriage.
Mask is a well-known romance author and he mainly writes about bisexual romance stories. His Facebook page started out with him sharing his thoughts on his own marriage. Since then, he has used his page to share his relationship point-of-views and to promote his new books. Since his debut, he has gained up to 678k followings on his account.
Just recently, the writer posted a long apology message. The post mentioned that his extreme beliefs in marriage, which he has constantly post on Facebook, have caused his friend his marriage. According to the post, a close friend of Mask who has been actively reading his posts decided to apply how Mask interacts with his wife into his own marriage. The friend has been liberally allowing his wife out on outings, no matter if she wants to go out for drinks, karaoke, etc.
At the start, this friend’s wife has been envied by many for the husband’s liberal behaviours. However, things started to change after a while. “My close friend has the same thinking as I did. Let my wife go out and ‘recharge’ herself, and she’ll love me even more when she returns. However, human nature should not be challenged. Along with longer periods of time in between each time she gets home, my friend’s wife started to act differently. The fate of being too relaxed with someone is betrayal.”
Eventually, the friend found out that the wife was having an affair with a long-term online friend on one occasion. She would take photos to satisfy the online friend’s requests while the husband was asleep. There were also pictures with different men and conversations that were far from ‘just friends’.
Mask’s friend added that the wife even secretly went to a male host club. Mask got to know about this when the friend vented to him in tears one day, “I did not call her to confirm because I believed no matter how playful she is, she will have a bottom line, she will know that the kids and I are waiting for her at home. However, now, I don’t call her because no matter how much she explains, I won’t believe her anymore.”
Upon hearing his close friend’s story, Mask sincerely apologised for ruining his friend’s marriage. He said that he felt really guilty for what happened to him. He then advised, “I know there’s no right or wrong when it comes to love. If there are problems within a relationship, both parties are responsible in some ways… However, there’s one condition where you should not have to examine yourself for, and that is your partner’s affairs.”
Mask ended his post wishing his friend well. He told him to leave the reasons that consumed him behind, and then he will be able to live a happier life.
