Just a couple of days before 2026, the Taiwanese entertainment scene has to bid goodbye to another beloved star. Veteran entertainer Denny Tsao (曹西平) has passed away at age 66, leaving behind a legacy in music and variety shows.
According to reports, the singer was found dead at his residence in Sanchong, New Taipei City. Authorities from the Sanchong Fire Department received a report from Denny’s godson on 29th December 2025 (Monday), around 10pm. However, upon arriving at the scene, the star had already passed away, with obvious signs of rigor mortis and lividity.

Denny’s cause of death remains unknown, but the singer did have a history of poor health. While living in Thailand in the mid-2000s, the star reportedly suffered an illness that left him unable to move for days. He only recovered after a neighbour took him to the hospital. The star also had a history of depression and severe insomnia.
Many were shocked by the news of Denny’s death, especially since he was still active on social media the day before his passing. The singer shared a post about the recent 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Taiwan, expressing concern for the locals and those affected by the disaster. He was also replying to netizens’ comments, which he often does.

Denny’s passing also reignited the issue between him and his brothers. In 2002, his brothers abandoned their father because of his debt, leaving the singer to bear the responsibility of caring for his father alone. The incident caused the siblings to be estranged. The star also previously said that he’ll never let his family touch his money after his death, instead leaving his estate to his godson.
As a respected figure in Taiwanese entertainment, Denny will be missed by his fans and colleagues. We extend our condolences to his godson and his loved ones. May they find solace during this difficult time, and may Denny rest in peace.
