Super-Duper: The SUPALAPA Festival In Genting Highlands Gave Us Life!

The much-anticipated SUPALAPA Music Festival, held over the weekend at Resorts World Awana, fully lived up to expectations. From a stacked artist line up, to the grooviest of crowds – the inaugural two-day event’s energy warmed up Genting Highland’s chilly nights.

With major international and local headliners such as The Kid LAROI, Tiësto, Paul Van Dyke, Yuna, Armani White, CKay and XG among others, SUPALAPA delivered exhilarating performances. The festival brought together performers and music lovers from many walks of life to share unique moments, celebrate musical diversity, and showcase talents at a great venue, high in the clouds!

Music For Everyone

The festival featured three stages; a live stage, an EDM stage and a pool stage catering to all music tastes. The EDM stage stood out with a breathtaking array of light effects amidst Genting Highland’s unique scenery. With the legendary Tiësto as the headliner, EDM enthusiasts were served an endless supply of pulsating beats throughout the festival. The Dutch DJ closed out the event with a sublime display of fireworks. Meanwhile, Singaporean duo Rave Republic put on a perfect show for avid ravers; while German duo Cosmic Gate rocked the crowd in style.

The live stage did not disappoint either. Making his appearance after an unexpected cancellation last year, The Kid LAROI enchanted the crowd with his performance. The hip-hop sensation even went out of his way and brought some local fans on stage to perform one of his marquee songs, Thousand Miles. It was a class act which gave the fans an unforgettable moment. Another highlight was Malaysian singer-songwriter Yuna, who returned home in lavish style. With the smoothest of dance moves, she performed some of her early songs, as well as more recent bangers like Forevermore.

Afrobeats fans were over the moon with Nigerian star CKay’s performance. Known for his viral song Love Nwantiti, CKay had the crowd vibing at his fingertips, accompanied by amazing dancers. Another huge crowd favourite was inarguably XG. The group put on a show and a half with sublime choreography. Their performance was easily among the most-awaited, and fans went absolutely berserk upon their arrival on stage.

And currently on tour, Australian singer Tones and I blew the crowd away with her majestic voice. Bursting on the scene in 2019 with her record-breaking song Dance Monkey, the pop sensation sang her heart out for her Malaysian fans.

And The Beat Goes On

The inaugural SUPALAPA Festival was one to remember. From the EDM stage to the live stage, the event was well managed and executed. The attention to details in terms of decoration and the various setups surrounding the 2-day festival are to be praised. It was an impressive mix of artists and performances covering most music genres. It demonstrated the transforming ability of music to unite people and cross cultural barriers. In order to ensure that music continues to inspire and unite people for many years to come, festivals like SUPALAPA are essential in fostering cross-cultural understanding, openness, and harmony.

See you at next year’s event!
