It’s a sad day for the people of Kedah 🙁
Utusan broke the news of his passing a few minutes ago. Their article reads, “The Sultan of Kedah Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah passed away at Istana Anak Bukit, at about 2:30pm today.”
Sultan Abdul Halim was reigning since 1958. He served as the 5th Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia from 1970 to 1975, and as the 14th Yang di-Pertuan Agong from 2011 to 2016. His 2nd tenure as Yang Di Pertuan Agong ended on 12th December 2016. He is the first person to reign as Yang di-Pertuan Agong twice, as well as the oldest elected to the office. He is also the 2nd longest-reigning living monarch in the world and was the 2nd-oldest currently reigning monarch after Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.
He passed away at the age of 90.
