#SuicideSquad: Director David Ayer Regrets Not Making Joker The Main Villain

If you have a time machine, perhaps you’d like to lend it to David Ayer.

In a letter to a fan, the “Suicide Squad” director admitted some of his missteps in handling last year’s DC movie, which included a telling statement: “Wish I had a time machine. I’d make the Joker the main villain and engineer a more grounded story.”

The main criticism with “Suicide Squad” was with its plot and villain. Cara Delevingne’s villainous character didn’t really gel well with the movie’s narrative. Enchantress was vaguely explained while her motivation was unclear except for the fact that she wanted to rule the world with her god-brother.

By making The Joker the main target of Task Force X, Jared Leto’s character would have received the proper screen time treatment, plus Joker and Harley Quinn’s backstory would have been more powerful and compelling. Even though “Suicide Squad” is far from perfect, Ayer deserves some credit for being able to look at the finished product and acknowledged his mistake.

The good news is, DC fans can look forward to Ayer’s next project – a Harley Quinn spinoff, “Gotham City Sirens”, that will include other popular female villains such as Catwoman and Poison Ivy.
