The film industry has lost another brilliant mind. Earlier today (Monday, 15th December 2025), news outlets reported that renowned film director Rob Reiner was found dead alongside his wife of 36 years, Michele Singer Reiner, at their home in Los Angeles. They were 78 and 68.
The couple died from an apparent homicide, with police still investigating the case. Rob is the son of the late actors Carl Reiner and Estelle Reiner. After getting a start in showbiz as an actor, Rob made his directorial debut in 1984 with “This Is Spinal Tap”. He would go on to direct many hit films, including “Stand By Me”, “When Harry Met Sally” and “Misery”. Many stars and public figures have reacted to Rob and Michele’s tragic passing. Here’s what they said:

Elijah Wood

Actor Elijah Wood worked with Rob on the 1994 film “North”, in which the actor played the lead role. In a Twitter post, he mourned the passing of the filmmaker, writing, “Horrified to hear of the passing of Rob Reiner and his wonderful wife Michelle. So much love to their kids and family.”
Paul Feig

Paul Feig also shared a tribute to his fellow filmmaker, calling Rob his “true hero” and “a true visionary titan and a lovely lovely person” in a Twitter post. The “Bridesmaid” director added, “One never knows if it’s proper to post during something as tragic as this. But I just want the world to know what so many of us know in the industry. Rob was the best.”
Joe Russo

Another filmmaker to mourn Rob’s passing is Joe Russo, a.k.a. one-half of the Russo Brothers. In his Twitter post, the director wrote, “I can’t handle the truth that one of the greatest filmmakers to ever live is gone. We lost one of the few good men. RIP, Rob Reiner.”
Josh Gad
Actor Josh Gad also paid tribute to Rob and Michele with a touching Instagram post. In the post, he said, “He was one of the greatest directors of our time. He was a friend. He was simply a beautiful person. Rob Reiner and his wife Michele were two of the most kind and caring souls you could ever imagine. He cared so much for those who had no voices. This loss is devastating. I cannot express how much this hurts. Love you Rob and Michele. Thank you for all you gave us.”
Barack Obama

Former United States President Barack Obama mourned Rob and Michele through Twitter. The politician also noted Rob’s outspoken activism, saying, “But beneath all of the stories he produced was a deep belief in the goodness of people—and a lifelong commitment to putting that belief into action. Together, he and his wife lived lives defined by purpose. They will be remembered for the values they championed and the countless people they inspired.”
Other stars who have paid tribute to Rob and Michele and extended condolences include Ben Stiller, John Cusack and Jon Cryer. We also extend our condolences to the family and loved ones of Rob and Michele Reiner. May they find solace during this difficult time.
