“Squid Game” (오징어 게임) took the world by storm last year. Since the show’s released, we’ve been seeing a lot of themed-parties, cafes, Halloween costumes and of course the memes. After the season finale, fans have been wondering if we’re getting a second season. We covered what many are expecting or hoping to see for season 2.
Will there actually be a second season? Will some of the original cast return? Most importantly, will it be just as good and have the same impact as the first season? So many questions but looks like we’re getting our answers as Netflix just announced that “Squid Game” is coming back! Here’s what we know so far:

Hwang Dong-hyuk, director, writer, and executive producer for “Squid Game” made an announcement of the show’s second season at the Netflix FYSEE grand finale event in Los Angeles yesterday (Sunday, 12th June). Netflix’s official Twitter even posted a 10-seconds video teaser of an eye of the Red Light, Green Light doll with the song playing in the background.
Not long after that, both Netflix and Squid Game posted a letter penned by the director teasing what fans can expect to see for season 2. Hwang Dong-hyuk first expressed his gratitude to the fans who made the show popular in just 12 days saying, “A huge shoutout to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show”. According to the post, here’s what we can expect to see:
- Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) returns
- The Front Man returns
- The man in the suit with ddakji might be back
- Introducing Young-hee’s boyfriend, Cheol-su
There you have it. We’re getting a second season! Of course, the director can’t give all the details away. Other than the one’s listed above, we don’t know who else will be returning or if they’re returning at all. We also wonder if one of these characters is still alive after what happened last season (Spoilers!).
