“The Umbrella Academy” is finally coming back for its 10-episode third season. The cast of the Sparrow Academy crew has also been revealed, which also involves one of them as an inanimate object?
The members of the Sparrow Academy include cast like Justin Cornwell, Britne Oldford, Jake Epstein, Genesis Rodriguez, and Cassie David, all of who will be making their appearance as an alternative crew in the third season. They will also star alongside Justin H. Min who is returning as Ben but as a person who we don’t actually know.
Interestingly enough, there is also Christopher, a mysterious cube serving as an oracle for the Sparrows. Before we get a general idea of who the characters of the Sparrow Academy are, we need to go back to the end of the second season.
From last season’s finale, we know that the Hargreeves screwed up the timeline, which resulted in some big changes. The creation of a class of Sparrows being one of them. Thus, we will finally see them playing an important asset in the latest season.
Sparrow #2: Ben
And one of the Sparrow’s members is Ben (played by Justin H. Min) who will be playing as Sparrow #2. This was teased at the conclusion of the second season. Also, this Ben isn’t the one we all know and love, nor is he the sweet guy who we once knew. According to his teaser, Ben is described as a “Machiavellian tactician” with a body of a pretty boy mixed with a “rumbling inner-squid“. Ben is willing to claim his status as “the leader at all costs” as he possesses traits that is described as “vicious, pragmatic, and hyper-vigilant“.
Ben’s origin, unlike the other new Sparrow members, is already established more thoroughly, since he did appear in the first 2 seasons anyway. He was originally supposed to be Number #6 and was one of the 43 children born together on the same day in 1989 to a mother without any reoccurring signs of pregnancy.
Ben was one of the 7 babies adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves with the sole reason of training them to protect the world from harm’s way. He was Hargreeves’ Number #6. Ben has the ability to call out eldritch creatures via a portal to other dimensions situated in his body and his passing was the main cause for the disbandment of the Academy.
Sparrow #1: Marcus
Now venturing to the newer set of cast members, we first have Justin Cornwell. The actor is famously known for playing in series like “The InBetween” and “Training Day”. Cornwell will play as Marcus, also known as Sparrow #1. Marcus is described as someone who is “charming, chiseled and colossus“. Also possessing other positive traits, he is “honest, virtuous and demanding“. Being the new number #1, Marcus is a physically strong individual as much as Luther, the original number #1.
Marcus will play a significant role in the family dynamic. He will be the one who will help his team stay inseparable. Marcus is a graceful character yet dangerous. He’s calculated but also loving at the same time. Additionally, he may be smart, but he can be just as strong as well. With such a rational and disciplined character and someone who is able to lead, Marcus just radiates confidence without needing to raise his voice out loud.
Sparrow #3: Fei
Next in line is “The Flash” actress Britne Oldford, known for playing the notorious villainous role Peek-A-Boo in the CW series. Oldford will be playing Fei, who is Sparrow #3. She is a character who observes the world differently than others. Fei is also described as a misanthrope who prefers to be by herself rather than spend time with others.
Fei may be tough skin, but deep down inside, she just wants a friend or someone to be there for her. Instead of mixing around with others, she spends a lot of time as the most genius/ smartest individual in the room. Netflix stated that Fei is someone who is sedulous and desperate to solve things and will not hesitate until she finishes the job.
Sparrow #4: Alphonso
One of the Sparrow members cast also includes celebrity hotties like Jake Epstein. Known for playing in “Designated Survivor”, “Suits”, and “Degrassi”, Epstein will play Alphonso, who is also Sparrow #4. Alphonso is someone with a face and body covered with “countless visual reminders” of the battles he faced, all due to his years of fighting crime.
On the outside, he may be visually scarred but he is filled with a sarcastic and humourous sense of character deep inside. Rather than just verbally smiting anyone who seems dumb enough to come face-to-face with him, Alphonso just wants “a good pizza and a six-pack of beer“.
Sparrow #5: Sloane
We will also witness Genesis Rodriguez in action. Rodriguez was seen appearing in shows like “The Fugitive” and “Time After Time”, and we will finally see her in the third season as Sloane, dubbed Sparrow #5. Sloane is a “romantic and a dreamer who feels a higher cosmic calling” prompting her to have the desire to venture out to the world and experience something unknown or outside of her own spectrum.
Unfortunately, her obligation to her own family prevents Sloane from doing so, as she is tied to the Academy. Moreover, she is scared of “crossing the family line“. Sloane, however, has plans that one day she will be brave enough to go against them and act upon them.
Sparrow #6: Jayme
“Eighty-Sixed” miniseries star and creator Cazzie David will join the cast as Jayme, who is Sparrow #6. Jayme is one of those typical hood-wearing loners you normally see on television series and movies.
She enjoys being a friend to Alphonso and loves spending time with him when she isn’t letting out her “fear-inducing snarls“. Nobody wants to witness it; those who do would rather flee from it to avoid the outcome.
Sparrow #7: Cube/ Christopher
Lastly, a strange addition to the cast of characters is no other than Existential Dread Inducing Psykronium Cube or Christopher; Sparrow #7. There is no known origin of this telekinetic cube just yet but he does have some cool abilities.
He is able to make a room turn freezing cold and incite paralyzing fear onto people. As mentioned before, he plays as a consulted oracle who conveys remarkable advice and is portrayed as someone who mediates his family.
Christopher may not be a real human being, but he is “trustworthy and loyal” and is treated as a sibling or brother by the other members of the Sparrow Academy. This cube is “a force to be reckoned with“, and no one should ever underestimate him.
“The Umbrella Academy” will start filming its third season sometime in February 2021, and may be released either in the late summer or fall of 2021.
