Marvel is a world-renowned franchise with fans all across the globe. The very thought of being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) would be a dream come true for anyone and we’ve had Oscar winners and nominees like Brie Larson, Bradley Cooper, and even Angelina Jolie joining the MCU family.
However, not everyone would be thrilled with the idea of participating in this popular franchise and “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart recently revealed that she would never want to be part of it. During an interview with Amanda Hirsch on the podcast series, “Not So Skinny But Not Fat”, the actress explained that she would only consider acting in a Marvel movie if it was directed by a certain Golden Globe-winning producer.
On the podcast, the newly-appointed Chanel ambassador expressed her concerns as she was invited for several superhero castings ever since the “Twilight” franchise blew up. The actress isn’t keen to get herself involved and even spouted some negative reviews towards the MCU. “It sounds like a f**king nightmare, actually.” However, she said she would only agree if the director of her dreams, Greta Gerwig asked her to feature in a superhero film.
It is highlighted during the podcast how it would take so much trust and money to trust the outcome of the movie, especially in Marvel’s case where everything is produced frequently. Such an idea instilled worry within the 33-year-old, thinking that there would be no space for her to “feel” the entire film.
“You’d have to put so much money and so much trust into one person and it doesn’t happen, and so, therefore, what ends up happening is this algorithmic, weird experience where you can’t feel personal at all about it,” she stated. In correlation, Marvel Studios has been brought up among several female celebrities, including on issues of the gender payment gap which only creates more room for doubt among celebrities.
Although the Golden Globe nominee would execute a superhero role flawlessly given her appearance in “Crimes of the Future”, a sci-fi film by David Cronenberg where duplicating humans are put into vision, despite her excellent acting, the chances of Kristen Stewart being featured in a superhero film anytime soon remain slim.
However, there is still hope that we might see her playing a superhero. During an interview in 2023, Greta Gerwig told the Rolling Stones News of her plans to direct a superhero film one day. However, the director never specified the details as she is laser-focused on her current deal with Netflix on “The Chronicles of Narnia” movie.
