ShopeeFood Riders Are Now Safe To Be Out On The Road

Food delivery riders work in dangerous environments. Always having to travel on motorcycles and trying to race against time, they are forced to move at incredible speed. As such, sometimes they are considered a hazard on the road. But now road users can rest assured because…

There is a new CSR initiative that provides ShopeeFood riders with better education on road safety. They are taught first aid response and emergency practices through Rakan Penghantar, a pilot programme organised by ShopeeFood.

The main objective for Rakan Penghantar CSR programme is to promote close cooperation between relevant ministries and government agencies to educate food delivery riders about the importance of staying safe and following traffic laws.

This additional training will equip delivery drivers with sensible safety practises and emergency skills to help lower road accidents. A total of 100 ShopeeFood riders were the first food delivery riders in Malaysia to participate in the programme.

“P-hailing riders have a tough job of driving hundreds of kilometres every day to ensure the food is delivered to our customers. Protecting our ShopeeFood riders safety and well-being is our utmost priority,” said Kwa Yin Leng, Head of Operations for ShopeeFood Malaysia.

In total, there were five Rakan Penghantar workshops conducted at the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS). Professionals from both MIROS and Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) were made the official trainers for the workshops.

Each workshop was conducted for four hours and accomodated up to 20 ShopeeFood riders. The training includes three main areas covering the definitions and factors of road accidents, risk analysis of motorcyclists, hazard perception and situational analysis training, motorcycle inspection routine, emergency situation management, first aid training and so much more.

In addition to receiving training, participating riders who successfully completed the workshop were also provided additional incentives including a full gear starter pack and vouchers.
