Malaysian singer Shila Amzah and Johor-born You Zhangjing are representing Malaysia in Weibo’s inaugural popularity award, the Weibo Starlight Awards.
Launched earlier last week, the award has 3 categories; the “Male”, “Female” and “Group”. The “Male” and “Female” categories have 40 nominees consisting of celebrities from Japan, South Korea, Thailand, US, and of course, China. Meanwhile, the “Group” category has only 20 nominees coming from the Asian region.
Needless to say, Shila is nominated in the “Weibo Starlight Female”, competing against 39 other famous international artists such as Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne, Taylor Swift, G.E.M. Tang, Hebe Tien, Charmaine Sheh, Song Ji-hyo, Cecilia Cheung, Ayumi Hamasaki, and more.
Shila has gotten more than 30 thousand votes, but the one leading the list is Thai singer Sunnee who is part of 11-member Chinese idol girl group Rocket Girls 101 with over 227 thousand votes, while G.E.M. Tang comes in far second is singer with 106 thousand votes.
In the “Male” category, You is going against international names like Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert Downey Jr., Dwayne Johnson, Yamashita Tomohisa, Takuya Kimura, Sehun, Lee Min-ho, Eddie Peng and more.
However, the 24-year-old is one of the top names on the list with over 131 thousand votes. Nevertheless, he is still far behind from Sehun who has over 331 thousand votes and Lee Min-ho who gained 146 thousand votes.
In the “Group” category, leading the nominees is EXO with 251 thousand votes, followed by Super Junior with 225 thousand and Winner at 150 thousand votes.
Voting is open to the public and it ends on 8th April 2019, 12pm. Each person is allowed to vote 5 times per day.
