Many recently voiced safety concerns after it was assumed that one of the glass panels at iCity’s new attraction, SkyCity, slide was cracked. Although this was later proven to be just an optical illusion, the latest incident—an inflatable boat falling onto a passer-by—has caused major outrage.
It was later discovered that the ride was never actually approved by the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) for operations. The ride was temporarily closed, and refunds were offered to those who had purchased tickets. Here’s an update on the case:

In an official statement, Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Amirudin bin Shari, Chief Minister of Selangor, stated that the state government would summon the SkyCity theme park’s management to assist with the investigation, and operations would be immediately suspended. The suspension period was not specified; however, it was said that it would continue until the operator met the safety specifications set by MBSA.
Meanwhile, regarding the recent incident, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Ng Sue Lim, Selangor’s State Executive Councillor for Local Government and Tourism clarified that MBSA had actually taken appropriate action against the SkyCity operators by issuing several compounds and warning notices before it was opened to the public back in January.

“The Selangor State Government fully supports and entrusts local authorities to take necessary action and ensure that all tourism operators comply with the established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). SkyCity is also advised to implement improvements and enhance safety protocols before resuming operations,” he added.
The statement also informed that Tourism Selangor, in collaboration with the state government, would continue working closely with local authorities to strengthen monitoring efforts and ensure all tourism sites adhere to strict safety regulations. For those who were looking forward to trying the new SkyCity attraction, unfortunately, you may have to wait a little longer before the park resumes operations.
