The working life can be pretty nasty. Some people just love to start drama in the company but most of the time, these situations are kept within the company. There’s absolutely no need for the public to know what actually goes on behind the scenes in an establishment.
Unfortunately, a certain (and quite prestigious) Malaysian university decided to publicly announce to the world that 2 of their employees have been terminated from the institute. What was the reason and was it really necessary? Let’s find out:
SEGi University & Colleges is currently under fire for posting the termination of 2 of their employees on their Facebook page last week (Friday, 3rd June). While it’s not against the law to announce these employees are no longer associated with the institute, what sparked outrage is that SEGi also chose to upload photos of these educators and mention that police reports have been made against them.
In both their posts on Facebook, the globally recognised institute wrote that the 2 PhD holders were dismissed because of “matters relating to compromising private intellectual property and unethical acts related to the supervision and viva voce examination of PhD candidates.” They also mentioned that legal action will be taken against them.
Netizens are not happy with how SEGi handled the situation with many commented that the university is being extremely unprofessional and unethical. A lot of comments are saying that the university should not humiliate their employees by posting their photos or even mention about the police reports until the investigations are complete.
Despite after accumulating over 800 comments calling them out on the termination posts, SEGi has yet to release an official statement addressing the issue. Since the viral posts, SEGi has posted several other announcements and news on their Facebook unrelated to the termination of the educators.
We’re not really sure if they’re actually going to do something about the public’s reaction to their actions so guess we’ll have to wait and see. Whatever the case, we hope that there will be justice.
