An artist’s safety is always first priority during any event. Unfortunately, Hong Kong actress Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼) was left frightened and threatened during a security guard’s recent attempt to protect her.
Fans can understandably get rowdy when they spot their favourite celebrities in public. However, no one, least of all Charmaine Sheh, expected her to be yelled at by a security guard. The reason for his sudden shout? She had attempted to autograph something for a fan!
The lead actress of “The Queen of News (新聞女王)” recently made a public appearance at a mall in Shanghai. As always, the actress had a friendly smile on her face and an approachable demeanour. As such, it was no surprise that she easily opted to give a fan behind the barrier a requested autograph when she was crossing the venue.
From the video posted on Xiao Hong Shu (小红书) on 28th February, Charmaine had just taken the pen from the fan when shouting disrupted the scene. A man, allegedly part of the security team, ran up to Charmaine shouting: “Hey! Hey!” while holding out a hand to stop her. Charmaine pulled away looking shocked. Understanding autographs were not allowed, the fan then took the pen back and left the area as security ushered the actress away.
The guard’s actions seemed well-intentioned, but some netizens weren’t too happy with him. “This man who stopped (her), is he okay? He scared Charmaine Sheh, it’s baffling,” one netizen said. Another pointed out that Charmaine herself had wanted to sign the autograph. “Is it really necessary for the security guard to stop her?” they asked. A netizen even speculated that the organiser of the event wasn’t keen on letting her sign autographs for free.
The guard reportedly later apologised for the incident, but it supposedly hasn’t done much to smooth netizens’ feathers. Well, it’s certainly too bad that Charmaine Sheh’s kind gesture turned out to be a startling event for her. We’re sure her fan was even more disappointed. But, hopefully, they didn’t let the incident didn’t ruin their day!
