Firefighters do a lot more than fight fires because they also catch snakes. However, it does beg the question: are they outfitted to deal with these scaly reptiles? Well, according to these local firefighters, the King Cobra is a special situation.

Facebook user Farid Squad King Cobra is a firefighter and snake catcher supposedly stationed in Sabah. Recently, he debunked whether their firefighter boots were capable of fending off a King Cobra’s bite. Needless to say, the results proved to be fascinating for many netizens.

Farid first uploaded a video showing their personnel masterfully toying with a snake, luring it to strike. But, it also prompted a question from netizens: “If the tactical boots get struck, would they get punctured?” Farid claimed the boots would be fine if struck by a King Cobra, but would get punctured if bitten. To prove the claim, Farid posted a video showing what he meant on 14th February.

The footage showed a firefighter displaying their boot to a King Cobra and how when the snake bit into the boot, its fangs punctured the boot, even squeezing enough venom out for it to drip down the sides of the footwear. He also had to pry the snake’s mouth open to detach it from the boot, sharing this was how dangerous the King Cobra’s bite was.

Netizens were impressed by the display, with several praising the firefighter’s bravery in handling the snake. A few questioned if it was capable of puncturing jeans, which Farid claimed it would. He also advised netizens to wear closed shoes when walking in bushy areas, and to seek treatment immediately if bitten.

That was certainly one way to prove a point! Still, it was a very effective and interesting demonstration and definitely one to remember. But, we certainly hope we won’t encounter a King Cobra anytime soon.
