Netizen Blasted For Revenge Scheme Against Local Mart With “No Plastic Bag” Policy

Nowadays, it isn’t uncommon to find stores in Kuala Lumpur not offering plastic bags. However, the way this customer dealt with the issue wasn’t to anyone’s liking.

A customer hadn’t been too happy after realising the store they were at had a “no plastic bag” policy. As such, they decided to take their leave after the cashier had already scanned their items, without informing the cashier. Needless to say, most weren’t happy with their actions.

The netizen shared their antics on the “B40 Buat Perangai Apa Harini” Facebook group. Apparently, they’d bought 2 chickens and 2 kilograms of fish which had already been chopped up, in addition to other items that they’d needed. However, the shopping trip went awry the second they realised they would not be given a bag for their items.

“After (I) headed to the counter, (the cashier) scanned everything and put it aside (before) asking me to pay. I asked how am I supposed to bring everything home if there was no plastic (bag)? The cashier said they usually don’t give plastic (bags anymore),” the netizen recounted. They then quickly came up with a plan to teach the store a lesson on the spot.

The netizen then told the cashier they had left their cash and basket in the car and promised to return after fetching it. Instead, they left the mart and their shopping behind. “It’s stupid to support selfish businesses,” they stated. They also got their friends in on their scheme and by the third day, the mart had put up a sign declaring plastic bags were not provided.

Apparently, after the netizen’s antics, the mart has been receiving fewer customers. “Serves them right,” the netizen said. “I’ll do this again to other stores too. It’s (great) to get back at people like these.” They also opined that the employees should have informed customers of the “no plastic bag” policy before they bought items.

However, netizens reportedly disagreed with how they handled the situation. “Why would you (do something like this) over plastic bags,” one lamented. “Pity the business.” Several pointed out the store might be attempting to decrease the use of plastic. Others opined that the netizen could have simply brought their own eco bag to save themselves, and the store, the trouble.

Well, that’s one way to be petty over plastic bags, we suppose. But, we do agree with netizens; it’s always best to keep a reusable bag on hand or in the car in case we ever need to do some emergency shopping. After all, no harm in us being prepared for such a scenario!
