Retailers Forced To Deal With Mouldy Leather Shoes & Bags After 2-Month Closure

Now that the government has relax the movement control order (MCO), businesses in malls have started to resume operations.

However, returning to normalcy isn’t going to be an easy feat. A Facebook user uploaded a series of photos yesterday (10th May), showing the struggles faced by retail employees.

In his post, user Nex Nezeum wrote that even if fashion stores are allowed to open, retailers are forced to deal with the aftermath from the almost 2-month long closure due to MCO. According to the timestamp, these snapshots were taken yesterday morning (10th May, 11:35am).

Although the Fit Prime owner didn’t reveal where these “damaged” goods were taken, a closer inspection on the RM679 Camel Active shoulder sling bag price tag showed Metrojaya. Some suspect it’s the Metrojaya outlet in Suria Sabah, there’s been no confirmation yet.

Besides branded bags and shoes, even belts and wallets weren’t spared as well. These items appeared to be either discoloured or filled with whitish mould. Regardless, while netizens sympathise with what had happened, the sight is a turnoff for many.

Someone also questioned if these “damaged” items were genuine leather, to which another replied that even faux leather can get mouldy too. Can it still be salvaged after cleaning? Would people still buy it if the store slash the price by half? The jury is still out on that one.

As at time of writing, the viral Facebook post has garnered 10k likes and 44k shares online.
