JPJ: Renew Your Driver’s License & Road Taxes By 30th September

The pandemic has certainly made us think twice about our priorities. Gone were the days where individuals are hyper-focused on the next place to eat for dinner or the next party to attend! Our priorities have reshuffled to putting an importance to mental health all while advocating for causes that are of importance to us, and working full time while doing freelance gigs just to sustain our lives.

It’s a tough balance indeed! We’ve learnt to get used to food delivery services instead of driving to a specific location just to take-away our meals. That’s how much we’ve changed in a year. Driving might not be of huge importance now. However, a recent statement published in the Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) Facebook page, might bring some sense of urgency to road users nationwide.

The caption of the Facebook post reads, “Drivers and owners of vehicles are reminded to renew their driver’s license that have been expired by 30th September 2021. These licenses include, the Competent Driving Licences (CDL), Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM or road tax), Goods Driving Licence (GDL), and the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licence.”

“The renewal of LMM and LKM could be carried out online via the MySikap portal, at JPJ counters nationwide post-receiving an appointment or through MyEG and POS Malaysia, beginning 9th August 2021. Officials and police officers will conduct checks on compliance and enforcement beginning 1st October 2021.”

Based on the official statement released by JPJ, owners of vehicles must make sure that their vehicles have a valid insurance coverage and if requested by the authorities, they should also produce a copy of the e-cover note if the individual would want to drive before having a chance to renew it.

Adding on, JPJ has partnered with POS Malaysia  to facilitate the renewals — with over 650 POS Malaysia branches offering the services! If you’re fearful of going out for the time being, here are the online portals that  provide licence renewals:

Nevertheless, it is indeed important to get your license renewed to prevent any disruptions in your journey in the midst of an emergency. While it is indeed recommended to renew your license online, in the circumstances when that couldn’t be done, please stay safe and mask up while renewing your license in the JPJ counters or designated locations.
