It’s a sad day for Red Velvet (레드벨벳) and SECRET NUMBER (시크릿넘버) fans. SM Entertainment and VINE Entertainment recently confirmed the news that idols Wendy (웬디), Yeri (예리), Léa (레아), Dita (디타), Jinny (진희) and Minji (민지) will not renew their exclusive contracts.
On 4th April 2025 (Friday), SM Entertainment announced that Red Velvet members Wendy and Yeri have decided not to renew their exclusive contracts with the company. As such, both idols will no longer be part of the company as solo artists. However, the entertainment giant assured fans that Wendy and Yeri would continue participating in Red Velvet’s group activities, including future comebacks.

Wendy debuted as a member of Red Velvet in 2014, while Yeri joined the girl group as a new member in 2015. However, both idols were introduced to the public in 2014 as part of the pre-debut collective SMROOKIES. Red Velvet’s contract renewal has been the subject of fans’ curiosity since 2023, after Seulgi (슬기) announced her renewal. Irene (아이린) and Joy (조이) subsequently renewed their contracts in 2024 and early 2025 respectively.
Unfortunately, not all idols that left their company will continue with group activities. VINE Entertainment recently announced that members Dita, Jinny and Minji will not renew their contracts with the company. This news comes a day after member Léa announced her departure from the company following the expiration of her contract. Sadly, the departure of Dita, Jinny and Minji also signifies the end of their journey with SECRET NUMBER.

In their official statement, the trio confirmed their activities as SECRET NUMBER members have concluded. They also mentioned that despite numerous discussions with the agency, they believe it would be difficult to continue with group activities. Following the departure of four members, SECRET NUMBER currently consists of members Zuu (주) and Soodam (수담). While the group hasn’t officially disbanded, their future activities remain unclear.
Regardless, we wish Wendy, Yeri, Léa, Dita, Jinny and Minji the best of luck in their future endeavours. What are your thoughts on this?
