Family travel has been rapidly gaining momentum as travel returns to pre-pandemic levels. Group travel in Malaysia jumped 180 percent on Airbnb last year up from the year prior, and family travel on the platform increased by 60 percent globally compared to pre-pandemic 2019.
This Ramadan, Airbnb has seen almost 600 percent growth in searches for travel accommodation in Malaysia. Top searched cities for the festive season include Kota Kinabalu, Johor Bahru, Georgetown, Kuching, and Alor Setar.
Amanpreet Bajaj, Airbnb’s General Manager for Southeast Asia, India, Hong Kong and Taiwan, said guests are seeking stays with more space and value when it comes to family-friendly stays.
He said: “Many families are booking Airbnb listings because of their large spaces which are great for gatherings, household amenities such as a kitchen and washing machine, and the option to live altogether as a family during this festive period.
Among Malaysia’s top-booked categories for family travel last year in Malaysia were Tropical, Amazing Pools, Beach and National Parks.”
