In May 2012, Lady Gaga was supposed to have performed in Jakarta – until Indonesian Islamic hardliners protested against it. The US pop diva, who’s famous for her crazy costumes and wild stage presence, was forced to cancel the concert after they promised “chaos” if she entered the country. They also threatened violence, calling her a “devil’s messenger” who wears only a “bra and panties”.
At the time, more than 50,000 tickets had been sold for the event at the Bung Karno Stadium, but FPI Jakarta chairman Habib Salim Alatas said the cancellation was “good news” for Muslims in Indonesia.
Now, almost a year later, concert promoters Live Nation LGTours, Mermaid Touring, and The Atom Factory are suing insurers in the United States for breach of contract. The promoters are accusing the insurers of failing to pay out on a terrorism policy taken out in advance of the tour. More specifically, they’re accusing the insurers of “despicable conduct that subjected Plaintiffs to cruel and unjust hardship..with the intent to vex, injure, or annoy the Plaintiffs, such as t constitute oppression, fraud, or malice”.
This is coming after Lady Gaga was forced to cancel all of the remaining dates of her “Born This Way Ball” tour in the US and Canada because she had to undergo surgery for a hip injury. The cancellations could make her lose up to £16 million.
