2020 has decided to shake things up both in the real world and in the anime world. And, for those hardcore Pokemon fans, this news definitely falls under their Top 10 most shocking news of the decade.
A leaked summary on the Anipoke Twitter fan account reveals that Ash Ketchum’s Pikachu might finally evolve into a Raichu after 23 seasons of never ever evolving in the long-running Pokemon anime series.

An established concept in the Pokemon series was that Pikachu would never need to evolve into a more powerful Raichu as he is “perfect just the way he is” :’) Pikachu has helped defeat numerous gym leaders by embracing his perfect little self with no desire to change since the very first season of this beloved series.
However, in the summary and VA list for episode 35, there seems to have been a throng of Pikachus who have dug out “Thunderstones” and are using them to evolve into Raichus. The summary reads, “and them Satoshi’s [aka Ash’s] Pikachu finally evolves into a Raichu as well thanks to a “Thunderstone” discovered by a very obliging female Pikachu?!”
An “obliging female Pikachu”?
Is this another Adam and Eve situation? Did she find the Thunderstone and convince Ash’s Pikachu to use it? The question mark at the end of the summary does make this seem a little suspicious. It’s possible that this is a a fakeout, where Pikachu only briefly becomes Raichu? Or maybe Goh’s new Pikachu actually evolves into Raichu instead?
So many questions, such little answers… We’ll just have to wait and see what the writers of “Pokemon Journeys” have in store for us. All we know for sure right now is that fans are not happy with this sudden change to this classic storyline.
