Presents can be a hit or miss. Sometimes, you’ll get a gift that is the perfect one, the best present ever and you’ll treasure it for a very long time. Others may not be the one you want, but hey, it’s the thought that counts, right? Then you have the odd gifts which baffle the mind. Take this recent one that popped up in China, for example.

This woman recently held a party to celebrate her birthday. It was a very nice affair, except one gift completely threw her off. A friend had gifted her a bouquet of flowers with a pig head for a centre! Needless to say, this woman was left completely dumbfounded.

The birthday party had taken place on 17th December. It looked to be a casual affair. However, everyone, including the birthday girl, was thrown off when a woman in a white coat appeared at the door, hugging a giant bouquet with a pig’s head in the centre! To everyone’s shock, the pig’s head wasn’t fake, it was a whole, real pig’s head.

The head was surrounded by pretty blue flowers and held a white rose in its mouth.  Additionally, there was a birthday card clipped to its ear. Although everyone was initially stunned, they were soon laughing at the sheer absurdity of it. The birthday girl herself let out a cry in surprise at the gift and reportedly asked, “Should I accept it?” She did take the gift in the end, however!

The friend had reportedly gifted her the pig’s head as “zhu”, pig in Chinese, sounds similar to a Chinese idiom which means “everything would be going well”. Although it was a clever play on words, the gift got mixed views from netizens. Many felt they wouldn’t have accepted the gift as it was too bizarre for their tastes. On the other hand, some felt it was rather practical. A few also pointed out that you could eat the pig’s head which is rather expensive to get.

Well, that is certainly one gift that may either make or break your relationship! But, we do hope the woman had a delightful birthday and enjoyed the rest of her day. Hopefully that pig head bouquet will be something she and her friend can laugh about for years to come!
