Did you tune in to the 11th July episode of South Korea’s “King of Masked Singer”? During the first round of the competition, a masked singer by the nickname ‘Center’ was put up against a fellow masked singer ‘Butter’. The two male singers sang “Primary”, a song by Johny featuring Dynamic Duo.
The result was in the favour of masked singer ‘Butter’ as majority of the panelists chose him as the winner for the first round. However, when the voting result appeared on the screen, the viewers were shocked as none of the panelists voted for ‘Center’. It was the first time in the history of the program that a singer has received zero votes from the panelists.
The crowd was even more astonished by the revelation of the person behind the ‘Center’s mask. It was revealed – spoiler alert – that the artist behind ‘Center’ was South Korean rapper and producer pH-1. Park Jun-Won (박준원) or better known by his stage name pH-1 is a Korean-American rapper based in South Korea who has produced multiple popular hip-hop tracks. He was also recently featured in Tomorrow X Together (TXT)’s “0X1+LOVESONG” featuring Woodie Gochild.
The result not only shocked the panelists but also the viewers of the show. Netizens commented on online community forums, expressing their disbelief and left messages of encouragement for the hip-hop star. “I want to cry. pH-1 joined “King of Masked Singer” tho he got 0 votes, I still feel so blessed to have known such a talented person & co-exist in the same lifetime as him. “Honestly, ‘Butter’ was much better, but pH-1 has such a unique vocal colour,” one netizen commented. Another person said, “Wow I didn’t even know getting 0 votes was even possible on this show, to be frank. As someone who’s been watching it for years, it really was a shock to see it happen… finally.”
Not only that, fellow South Korean celebrities also commented on the surprising result, one of them was Park Jae-Beom (박재범) also known as Jay Park who reposted the performance video on his Instagram story. In his post, he captioned which translated, “Ph-0 [emojis] He sang well tho…”

The singer, pH-1 himself took to Instagram and posted on his own Instagram story. “I was really nervous on “King of Masked Singer” but I tried my best! The results were… (lol)… but… the other contestant was so good, even I could see it… To all of you who are rooting for me, I am taking it in good humour, so don’t worry. All the fans are so kind-hearted,” he remarked.
pH-1 also ‘Liked’ the posts that talked about his appearance in the program and the result. Netizens also complimented him for being a good sport as he could joke with fans about the outcome of his appearance in “King of Masked Singer” and he even playfully left a comment saying that he is “looking for a vocal teacher.”
