Panic Singaporeans Flock To IKEA Before One-Month Closure

The Singapore government has announced that schools as well as non-essential stores will cease operations starting today (Tuesday, 7th April) for a month. The decision was made in an effort to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

Since IKEA store is also included in the list, panic buyers across the nation had swarmed in to pay their last visit at the outlet over the weekend.

Recently, a few photos showing a swarm of customers lining up outside of the building while waiting for their turn to enter went viral online. Some even brought along their young kids with them, further raising everyone’s concern.

The chaotic situation was met with massive backlash on the web. In this case, a lot of netizens have been criticising their selfish attitude by gathering in public amid the outbreak. This would defeat the purpose of the closure order in the first place.

It’s understood that there will be no food delivery services provided by IKEA Singapore throughout the period. Perhaps this can be one of the reasons why locals decided to rush to the store to binge on their famous delicacies (meatballs, chicken wings, etc.) for the very “last time”.
