The Oscars is often remembered for the powerful speeches, but another powerful segment is also the In Memoriam montage.

Over the past year, the world has lost a number of iconic actors, producers, directors, and more. Thankfully, the Academy was able to honour every single person and reflect on their legacies.

Taiwanese-Canadian model and actor Godfrey Gao (高以翔) is known for his work in “The Mortal Instruments”. The 35-year-old hunk collapsed and died on the set of a reality TV show “Chase Me” (追我吧) in Ningbo, China, last November. He was laid to rest at Taipei First Funeral Parlour on 15th December.

During Billie Eilish’s performance of “Yesterday” by the Beatles, Kobe Bryant‘s image also appeared on the screen. The quote, “Life is too short to get bogged down and be discouraged. You have to keep moving. You have to keep going”, accompanied the image. Although the Lakers legend best known for his basketball achievements, he also won an Oscar in 2018 for “Dear Basketball” (under Best Animated Short Film category).

In addition, the Oscars also paid tribute to Rip Torn, Barbara Hammer, Patricia Blau, Steve Golin, John Briley, Diahann Caroll, Terry Jones, Catherine Burnes, Danny Aiello, Buck Henry, Stanley Donen, Barry Malkin, Robert Forster, Robert Evans, Richard Williams, Jim R. Alexander, Anna Karina, D.A. Pennebaker, and Leonard Goldberg.

The list continued with Andre Previn, Peter Mayhew, Sylvia Miles, Bibi Andersson, Michael Lynne, Doris Day, Sid Ramin, Michelle Guish, Sidney J. Sheinberg, Joss Williams, Piero Tosi, Kenneth Walker, Syd Mead, Harriet Frank Jr., John Witherspoon, Seymour Cassel, Peter Fonda, Branko Lustig, John Singleton, and Kirk Douglas.
