Ong Jian Yang Finds Beauty In Stillness With His Solo Exhibition “Somewhere, Quietly”

Watercolour artist Ong Jian Yang invites viewers to slow down and appreciate life’s quieter moments in his debut solo exhibition, “Somewhere, Quietly”, happening at Awegallery, Petaling Jaya from 13th to 27th November 2025.

The exhibition captures fleeting everyday scenes—from the calm of small towns to the stillness of night—showing how beauty can be found in quiet moments.

Known for his meditative brushwork, Jian Yang turns his gaze toward what is often overlooked: the way light lingers on a wall, how trees seem to listen, how the air itself carries a kind of tenderness. These are not grand gestures but quiet revelations, small and luminous fragments of life waiting to be seen.

“Somewhere, quietly—that’s where I find the most honest part of myself and where I hope others might find a bit of themselves too,” Jian Yang expressed. “When the world is quietly seen, it feels most alive.”

For Jian Yang, painting isn’t about recreating what he sees but expressing what can’t be said. Some emotions are too fragile for words, and in that silence, painting becomes a space to rest where uncertainty feels complete and meaning can simply exist.

At 29, Jian Yang has already made his mark in the local and international art scene, winning the Rising Star Award from the Malaysian Watercolour Society and the Lu Ruo Song Award in China. His works have been shown in Malaysia, the UK, and China, reflecting his growing skill and confidence in composition and form.

Hailing from Taiping, Jian Yang began painting at eight after learning watercolour from artist Liau Sin Fah. His background in architecture sharpened his eye for structure and balance, which define his work today. “Every subject matter can excel if the composition is meticulously crafted. Composition is king!” he says. Through “Somewhere, Quietly,” he hopes viewers will pause and find calm in a world that seldom slows down.
