“OMG! Mom’s Big News!” (OMG! 阿妈有喜) stands out among the Chinese New Year films this year for many reasons. Anita Yuen Wing Yee (袁咏仪) is one of the main draws, but more importantly, the comedy drama has relatable and heartwarming storyline to it.
Last week, the cast of “OMG! Mom’s Big News!” held a press conference in Dadi Cinema, Pavilion KL after members of the media has an exclusive screening. “OMG! Mom’s Big News!” centers on a woman in her 50s, who unexpectedly gets pregnant. This sends the entire family into a whirlwind of drama when they have to weigh in the pros and cons of raising an infant at this age.
In addition to director Ernest Chong and executive producer Jment Lim, the rest of cast – Chan Fong, Juztin Lan, and Miko Wong, with Tong Bing Yu – were present at the event to talk about the movie. Needless to say, all eyes were on Anita, who had specially flown in from Hong Kong to attend the press conference, and walked the red carpet during the Meet & Greet later that night.
While rare, there have been reports of women getting pregnant in their 50s. The Hong Kong actress, who turns 54 in September, said that she would consider it “a blessing from above” if it happened to her in real life. Back in 2021, Anita revealed that she and husband Julian Cheung had even resorted to in vitro fertilisation (IVF), but was met with consistent failure.
Although her son Morton is almost an adult, the award-winning star still fond memories of her pregnancy. “I have become a completely different person because of this. Being a mother is like having a second life. I was stronger than I thought. I remember when I saw the test results, I told my husband it was positive and went back to sleep,” Anita previously said.

Tong Bing Yu, who plays Anita Yuen’s sister-in-law , is also a producer on this project. Despite objecting her sister-in-law’s late pregnancy, her character eventually comes around and we as the audience get to understand her reasoning behind it. Taking dual roles wasn’t easy for the Malaysian actress.
Bing Yu described the filmmaking process as more challenging than childbirth, handling everything from scriptwriting to marketing herself and experiencing late-night breakdowns. Completing this movie felt like giving birth, and now she hopes to nurture it to grow strong.
