As our national athletes continue to make the country proud on the world stage at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, netizens on the internet continue to show their love and support. After the Malaysian women’s doubles badminton pair – Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan – advanced to the semi-finals, local media shared an adorable throwback video of one-half of the pair.
The video shared on social media was a clip of an old TV2 show featuring Pearly when she was just ten. In the video, the now-24-year-old introduced herself and her background in badminton. The athlete shared during the interview that she started playing the sport after being introduced by her father. She also showed off some of her skills on camera, proving her athleticism from a young age.

The throwback video of young Pearly immediately went viral and got the attention of many netizens. Most of the comments on the video coo over the athlete, saying the video proves that she’s always been the cute, smiley athlete she is. Some also commented that the young girl in the video is now making history on the world stage and could soon bring home a medal for her home country.
Pearly and her women’s doubles partner Thinaah made history yesterday (1st August, Thursday) after the two became the first Malaysian women’s doubles pair to qualify for the semi-finals in the Olympic Games. The duo, affectionately dubbed PearlThin, will face the Chinese pair Jia Yifan and Chen Qingchen later today (2nd August, Friday) for a spot in the finals.

We wish the pair all the best for their next game and, along with the rest of Malaysia, will continue to support “PearlThin” and our other national Olympians. Perhaps once Pearly has the gold in her clutches, she’ll recreate this video of herself.
