We are aware that Malaysia has one of the most stringent Halal certification processes, and receiving a Halal certification for any food establishment is significant achievement. It goes without saying that F&B brands are always striving to maintain the highest quality standards across its menu items, ensuring that the food and restaurants meet the required food safety and premise cleanliness criteria required by JAKIM.

This month, 2 popular food brands – Genki Sushi Malaysia and K Fry Urban Korean – officially received its Halal certification from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM). This milestone reflects the companies’ testament in the religious and cultural values in Malaysia while ensuring food safety and premise cleanliness.

Genki Sushi Malaysia

Genki Sushi Malaysia is adding a pearl to their crown with its Halal certification milestone celebration. This certification marks a momentous step forward in the brand’s dedication to always having its Malaysian customers’ values at its core and evolving to ensure its relevance; all while maintaining its authentic Japanese culinary experience.

“Obtaining this Halal Certification is just a small part of a bigger picture in  developing the Genki Sushi brand. The Malaysian market is an important one for Genki Sushi with  tremendous potential for brand growth. Malaysia can expect to see more Genki Sushi outlets opening up, which further accentuates the brand’s commitment here. We have always prided ourselves on  our commitment to quality and innovation, and I firmly believe that with the support of our Malaysian customers, we will see the brand grow from strength to strength,” explained Jun Uchida, Head of Business, Development & Support at Genki Sushi SEA.

In addition to announcing its Halal status, Genki Sushi also expanded their menu offering in Malaysia with the introduction of their new menu offerings at their certification event, allowing guests to experience firsthand the quality and authenticity of the food.

Visitors to Genki Sushi looking for fresh and delectable dishes can expect to indulge in the Sashimi Moriawase, Spicy Salmon Maki, Unatama Tempura Maki, and Trio Salmon Sushi, amongst others. Those wanting a more epicurean taste of Japan can also look forward to a selection of dishes comprising Tempura Moriawase, Yakiniku Roll, Agedashi Tofu, and the like.

The new menu items are currently available at all Genki Sushi outlets in Malaysia.

K Fry Urban Korean

K Fry Urban Korean, Malaysia’s beloved homegrown Korean fried chicken restaurant chain, is proud to announce a major milestone: K Fry is now officially Halal-certified! The achievement underscores K Fry’s unwavering commitment to inclusivity and the highest standards of food quality.

From its signature K Fry cheesy chicken bumbuk to its rice balls and bingsoo (Korean shaved ice), Malaysians can now indulge in their favourite K Fry dishes with the assurance that everything is prepared in accordance with the Halal standards, set by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM).

Since its establishment in 2016, K Fry has become synonymous with crispy, juicy fried chicken coated in flavourful sauces and paired with fan-favourite sides. With the addition of Halal certification, K Fry is even more accessible to Malaysians while staying true to its commitment to bold, authentic Korean flavours.

“We are incredibly excited to announce this new chapter for K Fry,” said Ismail Bin Sulaiman, Halal Chairman and Operations Director of K Fry Urban Korean. “Our mission has always been to share our love for Korean food with as many Malaysians as possible, and this Halal certification marks a significant step toward greater inclusivity without compromising the flavours and creativity in modern Korean cuisines we are known for.”

The Halal certification process involved a thorough audit of the entire supply chain, from ingredient sourcing to preparation methods. This ensures that K Fry adheres to the highest standards of food safety and religious compliance, making it a trusted choice for all Malaysians.

In celebration of this momentous milestone, K Fry is offering the “K Fry Halal Month Reward” campaign from 24th October to 22nd November 2024. During this period, a total of 10,500 Soonsal Chicken sets worth RM270,000 will be given away exclusively to dine-in customers who are registered K Fry app members at all K Fry outlets! Customers can enjoy a free Soonsal Chicken (boneless chicken) with the purchase of selected K Fry dishes such as K Fry Chicken Bumbuk, K Fry K’rispy Chicks, K Fry Chicken Wings, K Fry Snow Cheese Chicken, or K Fry Soonsal Chicken.
