It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no, it was a regular morning at the Persiaran Kayangan junction in Section 8, Shah Alam, a regular, unnoteworthy road. And then an 18-year-old man made a surprise appearance.
A video recently went viral on social media, appears to show dashcam footage of a car making a turn at a regular, empty traffic junction on an overcast afternoon. Suddenly, a naked man emerges from the thin shrubbery and walks across the road. Unsurprisingly, the incident caught drivers off-guard. Thankfully, the authorities quickly took action, taking the man into custody.

In a statement from police, Shah Alam police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim states that the man was arrested at 8:30am and was taken to the Section 6 police station. They said, “He could only communicate using hand gestures, and he wrote down the phone number of a person who could be contacted“. The police chief further stated that the teenager’s uncle later visited the police station. The man explained that his nephew, who has been living with him in Section 9, has mental health issues and has previously received psychiatric treatment.
Shortly after the video went viral, some netizens expressed concern for the young individual, while others made light of the situation, even joking about his possible mental health condition. It is worth noting that these comments were made before the authorities issued their statement clarifying the situation. Fortunately for the naked jogger, he will get back to his regular life despite the viral excursion, as Mohd Iqmal added in a statement: “The teenager was handed over to his uncle. He will receive further treatment at Shah Alam Hospital“.

Although the young man was not charged due to this mental health issues, it should also be noted that such an act may come under Section 509 of the Penal Code or Section 28(e) of the Minor Offences Act 1955, depending on the circumstances and intent, maybe even Section 294(a) of the Penal Code.
