Not everyone has the privilege to retire at such a young age after a very successful career. Just because one is retiring from their line of work, it does not mean they will stop working entirely. Sometimes, it simply means they’re focusing on making other dreams a reality.

After weeks of news circulating and speculations of Malaysian Gymnast Farah Ann’s retirement, the SEA Games Gold medalist herself has finally confirmed the news by officially announcing her retirement from the world of competitive gymnastics with a post on Instagram.

The Olympian took to Instagram recently to announce her retirement with the caption that reads, “Now after 25 amazing years in this sport, I am finally ready to say goodbye to being a competitive gymnast. All I can say is THANK YOU gymnastics for all the wonderful memories and experiences that I have had.”

Many of her fellow national and international athletes commented on her post, sending her heartwarming wishes and pray nothing but the best for the gymnast. The legendary Malaysian squash player Nicol David was one of those who wished Farah all the best for her future. “Enjoy everything that life has in store for you and all the best for your next adventure!,” she said. National badminton player Lee Zii Jia wished Farah a “Happy retirement 🙌🏻🙌🏻.”

Another National badminton player, Lee Meng Yean also commented on Farah’s retirement post saying, “Same age , same school , same Tokyo Olympic and same time retired 😊 all the best in your future farah 💪🏻,”. These two certainly have a lot in common and go all the way back. New Zealand’s retired Olympian gymnast, Courtney McGregor also sends her love to Farah by commenting with heart emojis on the post.

Although Farah is retiring from competitive gymnastics, she mentioned in her retirement post that she will still be involved in sports one way or another as she said that, “Gymnastics will always be a part of me, as It will always be my passion, and hopefully, I can give something back to the sport that has truly given me so much.”

Maybe one day she’ll start her own gymnastics class, who knows? Whatever her future plans may be, her friends, fans and fellow athletes got her back. Thank you Farah for making Malaysia proud and all the best in your future endeavours!
