The “TVB Anniversary Awards” recently concluded, with “The Queen Of News 2 (新闻女王2)” winning nine awards during the night. However, netizens are now saying that one star in particular lucked out.
On 4th January 2026 (Sunday), the “TVB Anniversary Awards 2025” took place, awarding stars like Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼), Bosco Wong (黃宗澤) and Venus Wong (王敏奕). One of the most anticipated categories of the night was Best Actress, which ultimately went to Charmaine Sheh for her role of Man Wai Sum in “The Queen of News 2”.
The award marked Charmaine’s fourth Best Actress award, thus setting the record for the star with the most Best Actress awards. While many said the actress deserved her win, especially for her portrayal of the ambitious anchorwoman, some netizens couldn’t help but express sympathy for her co-star and competitor, Selena Lee (李施嬅).
Many argued that Selena was another top contender for the Best Actress award, citing her impressive performance in the TVB drama. However, given that she was competing against Charmaine in the same category, with the latter being the lead of “The Queen of News 2”, some lamented that TVB deliberately denied Selena a well-deserved acting prize.
Some comments even debated that Charmaine should’ve “given way” for Selena to win the Best Actress award, arguing that she could easily win the award again in the future. Additionally, netizens noted that the second female lead can win the honour over the first female lead, giving examples from past ceremonies.
