MYAirline Employees Allegedly Unpaid For 2 Months; More Come Forward To Share Their Hardships

Last week was a hectic week as MYAirline suddenly announced that they were suspending operations until further notice. This angered many passengers who had booked their flights with the airline. It appears that employees were also kept in the dark as they were informed of the news at the last minute as well.

There were claims that the airline had been unable to pay their staff for several months. While this has yet to be verified by MYAirlines, this (now-former) employee decided to share what he and his colleagues endured up till the moment when the rug was pulled from underneath them.

Not long after the suspension news broke out, a then-employee revealed on his Xiaohongshu account that MYAirline staff, even the security officers were supposed to receive their salary on 26th September but it kept getting delayed until they were informed that the payment was pushed back to October. Due to the delayed salary, the security team decided to go on strike for a duration to protest against the company.

Unfortunately, it seems that their efforts were in vain as MYAirline suspended operations, leaving everyone unemployed and in despair. “Everyone was at a loss when we received the news. Some were crying, some were panicking. This is all nonsense. The company still owes me 2 months of salary. The boss declared bankruptcy, the CEO ran away and the Captain went on strike,” the anonymous staff member wrote.

This employee was not the first to make such claims as there have been similar statements since last week on other social media platforms as seen in the screenshots below. There have yet to be any updates on whether MYAirline employees will be fully compensated after what happened but thankfully, other airline companies stepped in to not only assist stranded passengers but also offer jobs to the now unemployed MYAirline crew members.

It was also reported that the affected employees will receive aid from the Social Security Organization (PERKESO)’s Employment Insurance System (SIP) once their services have been officially terminated by the company. “These workers will receive income replacement for a period of three to six months while finding a new career,” said Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar.

The former CEO of MYAirline, Rayner Teo Kheng Hock has yet to properly address the situation as he and other colleagues resigned from their positions prior to the suspension news. Were they only intending to save themselves and leave the rest in the dark? So many questions and not enough answers.
