If you’re not flexing that you can speak a foreign language at their country of origin then you’re doing it wrong. Or maybe you’re just really modest and humble. Nothing wrong with that as well but half the fun is seeing people’s reaction when you can speak their native tongue.

Being able to speak a language is one thing but being able to speak in a certain dialect is an entirely different thing. This Dutch content creator who speaks multiple languages was lost for words when he tried to speak with a Malaysian woman.

Wouter Corduwener is a Dutch content creator who apparently can speak 29 languages. He is known for posting videos on his social media of him speaking with strangers in their native tongues on his travels where he also offers free gifts if the stranger can speak a language that he cannot.

The Dutch artist recently posted a video on his Facebook where he offered €20 (RM92.50) to whoever can speak a language that he can’t speak (though it seems he didn’t share this info with the strangers at first). For the first 2 minutes of the video, he has been successful of speaking every language with the strangers he came across with but can he speak a dialect?

He met a Malaysian woman who one-upped him by speaking in the Kelantanese dialect which earned her the €20 (smart, right?). The woman would’ve actually still earned the money if she were to speak in standard Malay as Wouter does not speak Malay but Indonesian which are 2 different languages. The video has been reposted by many and here’s how netizens reacted:

We have to applaud the Dutch man for being able to speak 29 languages because that’s incredibly impressive. Perhaps once he masters all these languages, he can move on to learning dialects? Don’t be surprised if he might suddenly post future videos where he can speak 29 dialects from around the world.
