M’sians Are Trending #TetapNormal On Twitter For This Reason

Did you notice? Malaysians have been trending the hashtag #TetapNormal (still normal) on Twitter these past few days.

Apparently, the movement came as a response after the #TetapBangga (still proud) hashtag became a trending topic in Malaysia over the weekend.

Wallahi. Sick seeing this! Come on Malaysian! Against LGBTQ! Don't be the next Kota Sadom!#TetapNormal https://t.co/DUguAf6FF0

LGBTQ people, aren't you scared of Allah? #TetapNormal 🇲🇾 #tetapsalah pic.twitter.com/Ut77WlpOS2

For those who don’t know, the local LGBTQ community had been trending #TetapBangga, stating that they are proud of who they are, despite it being against the Islamic law. However, their opinion didn’t sit well with others out there, especially among Muslims.

A number of Malaysians soon trended the latter hashtag, pointing out that they don’t support the aforementioned movement in our country. As mentioned by a few netizens on Twitter, it is wrong to normalise such a lifestyle in our country. They also shared some non-governmental sectors that are willing to help the LGBTQ community repent.

Others also commented that what is haram (forbidden) is still considered illegal. Check out some of the tweets below:

Please stop showing your own sin like it's a good thing?! as much as you have sinned, just do not normalise being 'proud' of it. Just don't. May Allah take care of us. #TetapNormal https://t.co/oUf2lNXfOG

#TetapNormal🇲🇾 I know some of you are struggling to get out from this. It's okay if you have ups and downs. Just don't normalise these and always keep doing and struggling and seek helps from others too and authorised people. There are people out there willing to help you 😊 https://t.co/gCwuB5aKPr

If you are a Muslim LGBTQ please know your brothers and sisters love you and there are ALWAYS people willing to help you find peace and acceptance but u gotta surround urself with the right circle #TetapNormal

To our dearest geng tetap bangga!

you guys should get help to back into fitrah, instead of fighting for the rights

we truly accept you as you are, as long as you understand and want to be helped☺️#Tetapnormal🇲🇾

Jangan pernah lihat dosa sebagai perkara biasa!!!

Jangan pernah wujudkan normalisasi terhadap dosa!!!

Apa yang haram menurut quran sunnah, maka akan tetap haram selamanya#TetapNormal🇲🇾#TetapNormal🇲🇾#TetapNormal🇲🇾

However, their effort has in turn sparked quite an outrage among those in the liberal circle. Many took to Twitter to clap back at the haters for slamming their life choices. Some even called these conservative people out for being homophobic towards them.

Choose your sin. It's also haram for heteros to date, but y'all nak sibuk org punya sexuality pulak. Just say you're homophobic and go. #tetapbangga https://t.co/3X1EDK2QvD

Instead of trying to be self-righteous, shouldn’t we focus on spreading kindness?
