Numerous stories concerning e-hailing drivers have made headlines lately. Previously, a Malaysian Indian woman shared an alleged racist encounter she had with a Grab driver. She claimed that the driver refused to pick her up, assuming that she was drunk due to her race.

While there have been no further updates from both sides, another local woman took to her Facebook to recount the time she was “schooled” by a male e-hailing driver for booking a short-distance ride. The Sabahan woman, Stella Milah’s post was reuploaded on the Facebook group “Meanwhile In Malaysia” and has since gone viral.

“This is the first time I got scolded by a Grab driver, so I decided to cancel the ride straight away,” Stella shared on her post. “I’m sorry, Uncle. The weather is so hot, and I wanted to save some time so I can arrive early at the destination. I’m still paying for the ride. It’s not nice to behave that way.” As seen in the screenshot shared by her, the driver told her to “take an umbrella and do some exercise.” Stella’s post has since garnered tons of responses from netizens on social media.

Most of them to the comments to put the driver on blast for his rude attitude. “It is unemphatic criticism, the passenger might be carrying many items, so why not give her a ride even if it is near,” one commenter said. Another wrote, “Maybe she sprained her foot or injured. Especially in this weather, she might be travelling with a newborn, small kids or old sick people. Be practical la uncle… you have to assess the situation first before offering your advice. Grab please cancel his account.”

To add to the drama, it appears that the driver in question, Jenson Chong, didn’t react too kindly to Stella’s complaint. “I demand you come up with a public apology and delete the Facebook post immediately. If you refuse, I will make a police report and I will sue you for breaching my Facebook privacy,” he wrote on his socials.

Following that, the post was later removed by Stella. What are your thoughts on this?
