#KingKong Prequel: Universal Pictures Moves Release Date To 2017

It looks like it may take a bit longer for Universal Pictures to reveal Tom Hiddleston’s character in the “King Kong” prequel as the studios has moved its release to a much later date.

Originally titled “Skull Island“, the upcoming King Kong film is a reboot and a prequel to the classic King Kong film. The news about the reboot was earlier announced in September during 2014 San Diego Comic-Con. The story is set to be based on cinematic origins of King Kong with an original draft of the script written by Godzilla’s screenwriters, Max Borenstein and John Gatins.

King Kong Skull Island

The film was originally slated for release on November 4, 2016, which is a few months away from the release of Marvel’s “Doctor Strange“. However, Universal Pictures has decided to push the Legendary-produced film to March 10, 2017 and dated an untitled Great Wall movie project on November 23, 2016 instead.

The untitled film will be produced by Legendary Productions with Zhang Yimou attached to direct. The film centres around an elite force making a last stand for humanity on the world’s most iconic structure. Set to begin production in Spring 2015, it was revealed that the film is going to be the largest film ever shot entirely in China.

Universal Studios has also made another change to the film as the studio has retitled it, “Kong: Skull Island”.

“King of Summer” director Jordan Vogt-Roberts will direct and executive produce “Skull Island” while “Thor” star Tom Hiddleston will play a leading role in the film. Tom Hiddleston will be seen next in Hank Williams biopic “I Saw The Light” and “Crimson Peak.” The British actor is also reported to have a cameo appearance with Idris Elba in Marvel’s upcoming film “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”

“Kong: Skull Island” will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on the new release date.
