“What do you do when you’re a full-blown man in a boy band?”

Popular 90s heartthrob boy band Backstreet Boys is reportedly releasing a documentary that will follow their rise and fall in the music industry. We last saw the boys (now men) in Malaysia back in March 2013 for the Twin Towers Alive event at KLCC, Kuala Lumpur. But it’s true when they say that we’ve all been pretty much left in the dark about all that has happened (save for tabloid gossip) between the time that they debuted in 1996 till 2013.

Titled, “Backstreet Boys: Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of”, the movie/documentary will be helmed by filmmaker Stephen Kijak (who directed the generally-accepted 2008 Scott Walker documentary, “30th Century Man”). It’ll allow the boys to tell their story of their heydey and fall from grace in their own words, and then followsthem during their 2012 reunion as they record their big comeback album.

On Wednesday (17th Dec), the trailer for the documentary was released and it clearly showed the struggles that each member faced over the years. Brian Littrell opens the teaser, saying, “From 1999 to about 2002, we were the biggest band in the world. Nobody thought it was going to be as big as it was.”

Footages of their former glory are shown, including their past concerts filled with thousands of fans in every place that they have been to. “Then it just stopped,” Brian Littrell added dramatically.

The big plus is Nick, Brian, Kevin, A.J., and Howie finally spilling the dirt on Lou Pearlman, the notorious svengali/con man who assembled the group and eventually took millions of their earnings during their heyday, as was the fashion in those days. Hah! We can’t wait to get the deets on that.

“Backstreet Boys: Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of” is slated for a 30th Jan 2015 release (in US).
