It’s always exciting when Malaysia tops a global ranking, particularly in the realm of food. Our beloved roti canai secured a place in the top three of the annual TasteAtlas travel guide, and we eagerly await seeing if any of our other Malaysian dishes will receive similar recognition on other platforms.
While it was not a specific dish this time, Malaysia still managed to secure the No. 1 spot at this year’s Osaka Expo. Here’s the story:

On Thursday (22nd August), Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Tengku Zafrul Aziz, announced on his official Facebook page that the food at the Malaysia Pavilion had been voted the most delicious at the Osaka Expo 2025. The recognition came from the “Expo Gourmet” survey conducted by a Japanese broadcasting channel, Yomiuri TV.
“This achievement is especially meaningful as the survey was carried out among Expo 2025 season pass holders, regular diners at the event, rather than one-time visitors. It stands as a true testament to the uniqueness and excellence of Malaysian cuisine and hospitality in the eyes of the world. Congratulations go to the entire team behind the Malaysia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka for their hard work and dedication,” the minister wrote.
As shown in the screenshot above, Malaysia ranked ahead of Australia in second place, while Saudi Arabia, Germany and France shared third place. Malaysian netizens expressed their excitement over the announcement, congratulating those at the Expo who represented the country on the global stage.

Meanwhile, local animation and video games also received positive feedback from Japanese audiences during the Ministry of Digital Week. According to Bernama, popular characters such as Upin, Ipin and Ejen Ali made appearances at the event, where visitors had the opportunity to learn more about the production process behind these much-loved creations.
