37-Year-Old Mom Talks About Her Experience As A ShopeeFood Rider

There’s no denying that riders are a valued asset as they have been helping to support the digitisation of the F&B industry in Malaysia. In conjunction with this week’s International Women’s Day 2022, ShopeeFood is shining the spotlight on female riders, particularly Zeity Azrina.

Zeity Azrina is a 37 year-old mom who decided to take on the occupation of a ShopeeFood rider since December 2021. Although the majority of riders are men, we’ve been noticing more and more women in this profession ever since the Covid-19 pandemic hit us.

“I started doing food delivery in 2020 with another food delivery company before joining ShopeeFood in December 2021. Other than doing this to earn a living, I enjoy meeting people and like to explore different parts of the cities and being a delivery rider provided me with a chance to do both,” said Zeity.

“Although this is a male-dominated industry, I personally feel in this company female riders are treated equal to males. I have never felt belittled nor do I feel pressured by peers or merchants when doing this job. In the earlier days customers might find it shocking to see a female delivery rider sending their food, but we are all good now,” she chuckled.

She also mentioned that every job comes with a set of challenges and the same applies to those in the food delivery industry. “Unpredictable weather, traffic, road conditions and road safety are some of the daily challenges faced by a food delivery rider. Fulfilling an order in bad weather is challenging and we often have to be extra careful on the road to navigate our way to customers’ houses to ensure the food reaches the customers safely.”

As a mother of one, Zeity dotes on her child and is thankful to have a supportive family that helps take care of her child while she is at work.

“My family is the main motivation that keeps me going. Working as a rider gives me the flexibility to plan my work days which is very important to me. Everyday when I head out for work, I set a target that I need to reach and I look forward to meeting that target so I can go home and spend time with my child,” added Zeity.

“Sometimes people ask me, why would you do this job? It involves long hours and the weather can be quite nasty. My answer will always be – why not? To all the ladies out there, you are all strong in your own way and if it makes you happy, keep doing it. No one should ever dictate what you can and cannot do.”

Following International Women’s Day, the digital platform is bringing back ShopeeFood Day (taking place from 12th to 14th March). Besides all-day free deliveries, foodies can also enjoy Super Deals up to 50% off discount vouchers from restaurants such as Agrain, Baskin-Robbins, CoolBlog, Stuff’d, Lim Fried Chicken, Black Canyon, Bask Bear Coffee, Tealive, Jipinhe Scones, A&W and many more.

You might want to mark the time slots during the 3-day promo special to enjoy up to 65% off between 3pm – 5pm. ShopeeFood is also introducing a special Savings Pass at only 10 cents enabling users to get vouchers worth up to RM195.
